DOMESTIC CRICKET returns tomorrow, and with it comes international stars aplenty.
RGA Walkovers host ATF St Ouen Springfield in the opening fixture of the DFDS Premier League tomorrow at the National Cricket Centre at Grainville.
With reigning undefeated Premier League and CI League champions Rathbones Old Victorians and T20 Cup holders Farmers Caesareans not beginning their campaigns until 9 May, both sides tomorrow have a golden opportunity to lay down an early marker and claim top spot after the first round of 40-over action.
Walkovers enter the season under new leadership, with Jersey international star Dan Birrell taking over the captaincy. His influence is already evident, both on and off the field, having overseen preparations at the National Cricket Centre wicket, which is expected to favour batting following high-scoring Scotland A fixtures last weekend.
There is a fresh look to the Walkovers line-up. Wicketkeeper-batter Drew Sylvester remains and will certainly be a key figure, while new arrival Will Taylor, originally from Newcastle but fresh from time down under, adds depth to the middle order alongside a useful left-arm spin option.

At the top, Jacques Van Der Walt will look to build on a promising 2025 campaign that earned him a nomination for Premier Batter of the Year, while the return of tall seamer Craig Rainford strengthens the bowling unit. His pace and bounce could form a potent new-ball partnership with Birrell, the men in blue will be hoping.
Youth also features prominently, with 16-year-old all-rounder Ollie Vacher due to make his senior debut. Fellow teenager Theo Bell, already making strides in the first team, will aim to cement his place in the middle order while offering an additional spin option.
Experienced off-spinner Harry Brooks completes a varied attack that appears well balanced heading into the opener.
Standing in their way is a formidable St Ouen Springfield side led by Jersey key-man Harrison Carlyon, who arrives in confident mood after an impressive showing against Scotland A.
Carlyon and fellow opener Patrick Gouge are arguably the Island’s most dangerous opening partnership and are expected to set an aggressive tone. Should Walkovers make early inroads, however, they will still have to contend with last season’s Premier Batter of the Year, Robbie Forrest, and the ever-reliable Dom Blampied in the middle order, also fresh off a good showing against the Scots.
SOS’s main strength, however, may once again lie with the ball. Barney Aston was the Island’s leading wicket-taker last season, earning Young Player of the Year honours and a nomination for overall Cricketer of the Year. Alongside him is rising talent Luke Bosio, a 16-year-old left-arm seamer fresh from his senior Jersey debut at Lord’s, who enjoyed a breakout campaign last year.
Their spin attack is equally impressive. Elliot Miles and Kush Pathak provide control with their left-arm orthodox, while Blampied’s leg spin and Carlyon’s off-spin ensure a varied and relentless threat throughout the innings.
There looks to be few holes in the SOS squad this season, and the 2019 CI League winners will be definitely looking to add some more silverware to their collection.
Standing in their way are a determined and improved Walkovers side looking to step up this season and earn themselves some long-awaited silverware.
With both teams boasting depth, balance and a blend of youth and experience, tomorrow’s opener promises to be a compelling contest. If recent conditions at Grainville are anything to go by, spectators could be treated to a high-scoring start to the 2026 campaign.
Play is scheduled to get under way at 11am.
