IT could be a case of Rob Ward out, Robin Ward in at St Helier Central after a business owner confirmed his candidacy for Deputy.
Robin Ward said that he is standing as an independent candidate because “our community deserves a representative who understands the realities of everyday life”.
Current St Helier Central Deputy Rob Ward is vacating his seat in order to stand for parish Constable.
The newly-declared candidate has worked in engineering, hospitality, retail and has spent more than 40 years running his own recovery business.
“We need to work together more effectively and focus on what is best for Jersey as a whole,” he said. “That means practical decision-making, restoring common sense, and a willingness to get things done.”
Addressing the cost of living is central to his campaign, he said, as he called for action to help increase disposable income, reduce unnecessary public spending, and support economic growth.
He added: “We need to put more money back into people’s pockets and create the conditions for businesses to thrive. That includes cutting red tape, improving planning processes, and ensuring that if we say Jersey is open for business, we actually mean it.
“We need practical measures that work for Jersey’s economy, not targets that are unrealistic or risk placing unnecessary strain on Islanders.”
He said that he wanted to see more green spaces in the district and a system of regular health checks to ensure earlier diagnoses which, in turn he said, would reduce long-term illness and ease pressure on our healthcare system.
“I care deeply about our Island—our people, our heritage, and our way of life,” he said. “We have a real opportunity to do something distinctive here, to shape a future that works for everyone. Let’s take that opportunity and make it count.”
Four other candidates have declared for St Helier Central. Reform Jersey members Lee Carpenter and Deputies Carina Alves, Catherine Curtis and Lyndsay Feltham are standing in the district.
Islanders will head to the polls on Sunday 7 June.
