Tigers reunited in Oz

Jegou spent six months at TSS in 2010, working with du Feu, and this will be his first visit since then.

TSS have three swimmers in the Australia Games team, plus performance director Chris Nesbit. The formerl head coach at Portsmouth Northsea, Nesbit was coach to Jersey swimmers Jeanine Taylor (Auckland Games 1990) and Simon Militis (Kuala Lumpar 1998 and Manchester 2002, the latter with England) amongst others. The TSS trio are part of a 49-strong Australia swim team.

Du Feu, son of Commonwealth Games Association of Jersey president Pau du Feu, said: ‘We are very pleased to be represented at a home games. David Morgan will be swimming in the butterfly events, Laura Taylor the 200m butterfly and Kiah Melverton the 800m freestyle.

David started at TSS in 2010 as a 16 year old. He was in my squad for a year before moving to Chris’ senior performance group. Kiah trained under my guidance for just under three years and has been at TSS Aquatic since she was eight years old.

‘Laura Taylor also trained in my squad for 18 months before being promoted to Chris’ group. To have three swimmers on the team is fantastic . . . to have three swimmers on the team that have all developed from age groupers to senior swimmers while at TSS Aquaitc is really special. Collectively these swimmers have had 28 years of coaching at TSS Aquatic.

‘These will be the first TSS swimmers at the Games. David and Kiah have competed at major events before but as these Games are every four years you really have to grab the chance. When I first arrived here we still had the British boys training and they swam for their home nation – but these are the first from the club to represent Australia.’

Nathan will be meeting up with two of his Calligo Tigers at the Games. Both swimmers opted to move to the USA to further their swimming career while at university. Both are products of the Tigers programme and both have continued to improve since making the move.

Paul du Feu added: ‘Nathan and Liam swam together and have remained great friends. To have the games in Liam’s home town is fantastic for both of them.’

The opening ceremony of the Games is on 4 April.
