TWO people have been taken to hospital with burns following a small explosion on a boat in the English Harbour.

The incident began just before 10am, adjacent to Goodwins Garage at Commercial Buildings, and is thought to have happened while repairs were being carried out on the vessel’s electrical system.

Firefighters were called out to deal with the ensuing blaze and the surrounding roads were closed.

Paramedics also attended and took the two casualties, who suffered burns, to hospital. A spokesperson for the emergency services said their injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Pictures taken at the time of the incident show a large plume of smoke billowing from the boat northwards down the road towards the Steam Clock.
