NEW rules coming into force today require pet owners to obtain an Animal Health Certificate before travelling to Europe.
Pet owners who are living in Jersey and whose main residence is not in the EU or Switzerland are now advised to follow advice issued by the UK Animal and Plant Health Agency.
This means that owners will need to get an Animal Health Certificate from their veterinary practice before travel to the EU. Using a pet passport may have your entry to the EU refused.
Pet owners are being urged to check the relevant and necessary documents needed to travel to their destination country before travelling.
Operators, including DFDS, are contacting affected customers directly where relevant.
This new rule also applies to those primarily living in the other Crown Dependencies and the UK.
Owners can enter the EU and Northern Ireland only if the pet is microchipped, vaccinated against rabies, was vaccinated after it was microchipped, and was at least 12 weeks old at the age of vaccination.
