ISLANDERS will be able watch up to three sporting events at the same time if they pick the right place to stand at this summer’s NatWest Island Games.

Two large television screens, which measure 15 ft by 15 ft, have been put up in Liberation Square and St Aubin to provide coverage and highlights of events until 10 pm each evening during Games week.

And spectators in Liberation Square on Thursday 2 July will be able to enjoy a three-way spectacle as the town criterium cycle race takes place in the streets of St Helier, the beach volleyball competition reaches its final stages at the nearby Weighbridge and the big screen opposite the Pomme d’Or Hotel broadcasts coverage from other events.

Beach volleyball is being played at Weighbridge Place

The second screen is being placed outside St Brelade’s Parish Hall, where spectators will have easy access to the pubs and restaurants of St Aubin’s Village.

Games director Steve Bailey said: ‘I think there will be a fantastic atmosphere at both venues, and I hope that people will go there to enjoy the sport and entertainment, which will be streamed for free.

‘We are enabling people who may not be able to get into some of the more restricted venues, such as swimming, to see the events and share the excitement.’
