Jack Gibson scored the only goal, the youngster’s 18-yard rising shot beating Newbury’s goalkeeper in the centre of the goal.

Jersey coach Rob Cameron said: ‘It was a good win, Newbury are a strong side as we drew 1-1 with them on tour recently.

‘I thought we played really well, we looked solid throughout in a fairly even game with Johnny Le Quesne and Scott McClurg excelling in the centre of our defence.

‘Newbury have won a lot of games this season and to beat them is a good result because the previous day they defeated Plymouth – another side expected to do very well this week.’

So it’s two wins in two games for Jersey as on Sunday they opened their account by defeating Hackney 4-0.
