The JCG student clocked 2.12.12 to reach the final at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, and was slightly disappointed in her final time of the 2.12.39.

Fellow AIB Tiger Tom Gallichan was also in action on the first day as he swam 17.35.22 min to put him 17th in the 14-year-old’s 1500m freestyle.

Gallichan, in his first Nationals, finished 11th in the 800m free this morning in 9.06.43 – a PB despite struggling with a shoulder injury.

He has a busy schedule today with two more swims scheduled – the 400m IM and 200m free.

Katy Glendening, Emma’s younger sister, got her first taste of the Nationals today in the 12-year-old’s 800m freestyle as she finished 26th in the heats in a time of 10.01.07 min.
