A last-gasp 32-30 victory over title rivals St Brelade A means that mathematically they have to win one of their two remaining games to retain the trophy.

But realistically, the easterners, with a 14-point lead over Convent A and St Brelade A, are champs in all but name.

And for that they have to thank Shelby Wright, who made a fairytale appearance in what was probably her last game for the club.

Goal attack Wright – who is soon heading off travelling before going to live in Spain – was pitched into the action at goal shooter in the final quarter after she had rested suffering from an ankle injury.

And, with the score tied at 30-30 she snatched the two winning goals.

It was cruel on St Brelade who had been in front for most of the game.

Said St Clement coach Zoe Hotton: ‘We got a coupler of vital interceptions and Shelby managed to score.

It was great for us but hard on St Brelade, they played exceptionally well and their shooting was superb.

‘We weren’t at our best after playing so well when we beat Convent A last week.

We had a few injuries and changed our positions around and that shook us a bit.

We had to put Sharon West, who’s normally our goaslkeeper at shooter because Shelby was injured.

Sharon played very well but eventually we brought Shelby on because we thought we were going to lose.’ Last night’s other results – Division II: St Clement C 32, St Peter 41.

Division III: St Ouen C 44, Sylvans 34.
