No Red Arrows for this year’s air display

The RAF display team are due to be away on tour in Pakistan and their final displays in Britain will be on 9 and 10 September. This year’s International Air Display is scheduled to take place on Thursday 14 September.

Disappointed organiser Deputy Mike Higgins said he first heard suggestions that the ‘Reds’ might not be able to make the Jersey display two weeks ago and his fears were confirmed in writing from the RAF on Thursday.

The Patrouille de France, the French version of the Red Arrows which performed at last year’s display, may be called in as a replacement.

Economic Development Minister Lyndon Farnham, whose department has given Ports of Jersey a £75,000 grant towards the display this year, said it was a ‘great disappointment’.
