• British champion preparing for trip to Russia for European Team Champs.
  • Islander will don GB vest a week before the NatWest Island Games.

ZANE DUQUEMIN will compete at the European Team Championships for the third year running later this month following his selection for Great Britain.

The 23-year-old thrower was named in GB’s latest squad yesterday and will travel to the Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Cheboksary, Russia on 18 June ahead of the men’s shot putt two days later. He has also been named as reserve for the discus.

The call comes after a season’s best performance at the Bedford International Games last weekend, but the British number one has said he is looking for an improvement on his current form as the deadline for World Championship qualification looms.

‘This season has started a lot slower than I wanted it to and I’m nowhere near where I want to be, but the numbers are going up and with a season’s best in difficult conditions in Bedford it looks like it’s starting to come together.

Duquemin will return to the UK in the week leading up to the NatWest Island Games before flying home on Sunday 28 June – one day before the men’s shot putt takes place at FB Fields.
