Cann came through two three-game contests on Friday to score straight game wins in the quarter and semi-finals yesterday.

But yesterday the four-times English National champion fell to Dutch No 2 Judith Meulendijks in a tough, three-game contest.

Cann went down 21-13 10-21 21-14 against a former world top 20 player and an opponent she has never beaten in seven meetings. But at least she took a game off the recent Scottish International winner for the first time in matches dating back to 2001.

Reaching the final should, however, give the Commonwealth bronze medallist a lift heading for Stockholm as she looks to climb from No 54 in the world rankings in her pursuit of Scotland’s Susan Egelstaff, who leads the Olympic qualifying race at No 32.
