A “HISTORIC” flagpole that stood in Howard Davis Park until it was removed for repairs almost two years ago is still undergoing a “time-intensive” restoration.

Made from part of a yacht owned by Jersey-born philanthropist and businessman T.B. Davis – who gifted Howard Davis Park to the public of the Island in 1939 in memory of his son – the flagpole was taken down by officials in 2024 amid concerns over its condition.

Providing an update on Friday, the Infrastructure and Environment Department stated that: “Following detailed inspection, it became clear that the condition of the ‘flagpole’ required a substantial programme of repair.

“The ‘flagpole’ is a unique historic feature, originally forming part of T.B. Davis’ yacht, and therefore demands particularly delicate care and expert handling.”

The statement explained that the flagpole was being restored by “skilled professionals” and that the work is “necessarily time‑intensive”, in order to ensure it is completed “to the high standard this important heritage asset deserves”.
