Nomination forms must be submitted by candidates between 9am today and 5pm on Wednesday.

CONTINUED checks have been carried out by election officials in a bid to iron out “inconsistencies” in the new automatic voter registration system.

Manual updates to the new register have been introduced by staff at the States Greffe and parish officials in the build-up to the opening of the “window” for nominations today.

Those wishing to put themselves forward for election will be required to present their nomination forms at Morier House in St Helier from 9am today, with the final deadline for submission being 5pm on Wednesday.

Some would-be candidates have reported difficulties in completing the form, which requires signatures and electoral registration numbers of a proposer and nine seconders, with some Islanders not being included on early versions of the register.

One election hopeful told the JEP that he had initially not been on the register, while another praised the helpfulness of staff at the Greffe but described the system as “ludicrous”.

The States Greffe said: “Planned validation checks have taken place between the old electoral registers, compiled from the paper returns made to each parish, and the data from the government’s people directory, which is being used to populate the new register.

“Some inconsistencies were expected as the old registers were cleansed every three years, whilst government data is updated daily.

“Where unexpected inconsistencies have occurred, for the purposes of the 2026 election, manual updates have been made and any issues with the automated data will be addressed post-election.”

Candidates arriving at Morier House will have their forms checked while they wait, including the requirement for a photograph and manifesto, with the form then being sent on to parish secretaries, who act as electoral administrators, before candidates are advised that their nomination has been accepted.

It has been confirmed that any candidates failing to meet the criteria will be contacted and offered the opportunity to provide an alternative proposer or seconder, and that such checks wll continue, if necessary, on Thursday and Friday before the final list of candidates is published by the Jersey Election Authority on Monday 27 April.
