A DOG which spent almost three weeks on the loose has finally been collared and returned safely home.
Seth, a rescue from a Bulgarian gypsy camp, spent 20 days being tracked by a team of parishioners and was eventually lured into a pen on his owner’s driveway having been tempted in by warm roast chicken.
During his adventures around the parish, Seth was spotted more than 100 times. However, people were advised to not approach, chase, or try to catch the dog, as this made him anxious.
Seth spent time wandering the green lanes, being photographed for Facebook, occasionally sleeping in his neighbour’s garden, circling his home base, and returning to his own driveway for food.
After numerous failed attempts to retrieve him, Gail Bennie, who was updating Islanders on the quest to catch Seth on Facebook, helped lure Seth into the pen before a crate tunnel closed and the door dropped – cutting his adventures to a halt.
Ms Bennie thanked everyone who helped in the search for the “intrepid explorer” and “little rascal” Seth – including the St Ouen’s Honorary Police, members of the Environment Department, the Lost Dogs in Jersey Facebook group, local vets and the JSPCA.
She also said that she was grateful to a local wildlife researcher who gave her trailcams to ensure he was safe and monitoring his whereabouts along the way.
Ms Bennie said: “On behalf of Seth’s owners, who are so delighted to have him home (and even more ecstatic that he chose to jump up onto the sofa and be close to his captor within three hours of being home), we would like to thank so many people for their help and support.
“The fabulous people who reported sightings that helped us monitor what the monkey was up to where and when, shared and cared, called and commented, messaged and made suggestions, extended offers of assistance, and wished for the safe return of the intrepid explorer, Seth.”
She added: “Hope you all get to meet Seth sometime, once he’s settled into his new life and learned that not all people are cruel.”
