A NEWLYWED whose bridesmaids’ dresses were destroyed in a St Helier fire just days before her big day has thanked Islanders after an outpouring of support helped save her wedding.
Casey Jones (née Crocker) and husband Taylor tied the knot on Saturday but disaster struck when three dresses were damaged in a blaze at Rayners Dry Cleaners in Beresford Street.
The fire, which took place on Monday 8 June, prompted a large emergency response and required people living in the flats above the dry cleaners to be evacuated.
Among the damage were the bridesmaids’ dresses, which had been dropped off for cleaning just hours earlier.

Mrs Jones said she intially felt “numb and in shock” after learning the dresses had been destroyed.
“Later came the wave of panic and heartbreak,” she said. “We have faced many challenges in the lead up to the wedding, but this one seemed like a hurdle we wouldn’t get past, and there were quite a few tears all around.
“I wanted my bridesmaids to feel beautiful and comfortable in their dresses to ensure they enjoyed the wedding just as much as I and my now-husband, Taylor.”
After the dresses were deemed “unsalvageable”, the then bride-to-be launched an appeal on social media looking for a “miracle” in the hope of finding replacements at short notice.
“I honestly did not think I would get more than a handful of responses,” she said. “I was soon met with an overwhelming number of responses from everyone who wanted to help or provide any advice and good wishes.
“It has touched me and warmed my heart and reminded me just how amazing and strong the Jersey community is.”

One of the replacement dresses was found with the help of Age Concern Jersey after the charity discovered it had a gown that matched the colour scheme and size for the maid of honour.
And, when maid of honour Melody Cornick arrived to collect the dress, she discovered that an anonymous customer had already paid for it.
Mrs Jones said she was “truly thankful” for the gesture and promised to “pass it on to the next person”.
Other offers of support came in, including from Holly Osmand and Jasmine Baudains, who gifted two matching dresses that closely resembled the originals.
And the kindness extended beyond replacement dresses, with Jersey Pearl presenting each bridesmaid with a pearl bracelet to wear on the day. Mrs Jones said the shop had reached out to help as they wanted all the bridesmaids to “feel beautiful” on the day, regardless of the dresses they ended up wearing.

Mrs Jones said the week leading up to the wedding had been overshadowed by stress, but added: “The whole situation reminded me of the true meaning behind ‘it takes a village’ and that it is really only the people that matter.
“I knew the wedding would be amazing and, knowing I had Jersey standing behind me, the big day was going to be incredible regardless of what we were wearing.”
The wedding took place at St Brelade’s Bay Hotel on Saturday, with Mrs Jones describing it as “the most magical fairytale wedding from start to finish”.
“On the day of the wedding, once we had found dresses, I was finally overcome with relief but also with the exciting reality that I was about to marry the man of my dreams with my beautiful girls beside me the entire time,” she said.
“It was truly the most wonderful and perfect day, and I would not change any part of it.”

Mrs Jones also thanked Rayners for carrying out emergency alterations to two of the replacement dresses and hand-delivering them to the venue with flowers following the incident.
“Despite them losing so much to the fire, their drive to help us was selfless and warm, and I hope that this helped them find some peace with what was lost,” she said.
Mrs Jones also paid tribute to her husband, family and friends.
She said: “Whether it was a shoulder to cry on, advice and guidance, or late nights spent crafting to help me catch up due to the time lost before the wedding, I could not have done this without them.”
“It was them and the Jersey Community who saved our wedding, and what an incredible and magical wedding it was.”
