JERSEY’s gender pay gap is narrowing – but the picture varies dramatically depending on where you work.

Figures released yesterday by Statistics Jersey, which were based on a snapshot from June 2025, showed the overall gap fell from 7.8% in 2024 to 6% last year, although some sectors continue to see far larger disparities.

The information and communication sector recorded the highest gender pay gap at 30%.

The sector with the lowest gender pay gap was the utilities and waste sector at -3.4% – meaning women had higher hourly wages than men in this industry.

In Jersey’s largest sector, financial and legal, men continued to earn more on average, but the pay gap in that industry has been narrowing since the start of 2022.

On the other hand, the report found that non-finance private sectors have shown relatively little change in the gender pay gap over the same period.

Over the course of 2025, there was a median gender pay gap of 6% – with the median hourly rate being £22.34 for men compared to £21.08 for women.

During this month, higher gender pay gaps were observed among age groups over 40 when compared to the overall average.
