THE JSPCA is urging Islanders to come forward with any information after a dog was found wandering alone in St Brelade with no sign of its owner.

The blind female dog, whose identity is still unknown, was found between the Elephant Park and Lavender Farm on Friday 15 August.

An Islander found the dog at the Rue du Pont Marquet traffic lights and she was then taken to Leodis Vets.

The dog is now being looked after by the JSPCA while the search for her missing owner continues.

No one has come forward to claim the dog despite a widespread campaign on social media to track down the owner. A post on the Lost Dogs in Jersey Facebook group has been shared more than 500 times.

The St Brelade honorary police opened up the Parish Hall on Saturday evening with parish administration staff checking their database, however, they were unsuccessful.

The search has now been taken over by the JSPCA, in the hope of returning the unidentified dog with its owner.

The charity said: “Our team have been working hard to find out any information and locate the owner as quickly as possible.

“We are working alongside relevant agencies, parishes and local community.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to the local community who have rallied around to appeal for more information and share the posts on social media.

Tracey Lee, an admin of the Lost Dogs in Jersey Facebook group and one of the Islanders involved with the search, said: “If the owner had been walking the dog (dog is elderly and blind), she would not have gone far before the walker/owner noticed she were missing.

“Therefore it could be a possibility that the owner is ill at home and the little dog has managed to get out of the house.”

Ms Lee explained that they have gone to great lengths to locate the owner but have been unsuccessful. She said: “We have phoned the Lavender Farm, Palm Springs Camp Site, Woodbine Corner, Morrisons at La Moye, sent posters to all vets, Jersey Post (hoping a postie on the round may have information), Liberty Bus, all dog forums, and you will see that the post has been seen thousands of times on our Facebook page and again from other shares with no one coming forward.”

“Teresa Mayo, one of the dedicated searches has been around the area speaking to dog walkers and knocking on doors to see if anyone can shed any light but still no leads,” she continued.

Islanders with information are being urged to contact the JSPCA on 724331 or the St Brelade Centenier on 741175.
