A ROAD that was closed for six months because of a sinkhole is scheduled to be closed again for “emergency” repairs, according to the Infrastructure Department.

A “road surface depression” in the road in Rouge Bouillon has forced the closure of the road tonight for repairs.

The Infrastructure Department have sought to reassure islanders that there is no “immediate danger” from the collapse. The road was being repaired “out of an abundance of caution”, they said.

They added that they would “closely” monitor the area once the work was done.

The road had been closed for six months after a burst water main created a sinkhole in December 2024. Repairs included underpinning with concrete the buildings that had developed cracks.

The Infrastructure Department added that tonight’s works were near the 2024 sinkhole site, but “outside the area where recent stabilisation works were completed”.

The road is to be closed tonight from 6.30pm to about 11pm, with access maintained to La Pouquelaye. Eastbound traffic will be diverted via Midvale Road and Val Plaisant, and westbound traffic will be diverted via Val Plaisant.
