JERSEY Festival of Words has announced that a bestselling spy thriller author, whose work inspired the internationally acclaimed TV series “Slow Horses,” will take part in a headline event.
Mick Herron, the brains behind the acclaimed Slough House collection, will appear in conversation with broadcaster Will Smith, who grew up in Jersey and recently won an Emmy award for the Apple TV hit adaptation of Herron’s tales of espionage, “Slow Horses.”
“Slow Horses – An Audience with Mick Herron & Will Smith” will take place at the Freedom Centre on Friday 26 September during the week-long festival, which takes place from 19 to 28 September.

Published in over 25 languages, the eight-novel Slough House series has captivated millions globally and earned multiple awards, including the Crime Writers’ Association’s Gold, Steel, and Diamond Daggers, as well as the Theakston Old Peculiar Crime Novel of the Year.
First adapted for TV in 2022, the four-series adaptation “Slow Horses” stars Gary Oldman as the irascible and quick-witted Jackson Lamb, the boss of a dysfunctional team of MI5 agents.
Herron’s ninth addition to the series, “Clown Town,” is due for release in September.

Sponsored by the JFW’s long-running principal sponsor, Highvern, the headline event coincides with the tenth anniversary of the literary festival.
Chief executive of Highvern, Martin Hall, said supporting it is a “real highlight.”
“We’re proud to support the festival once again as it celebrates an incredible ten years,” he said.
“Literature has a unique way of bringing communities together, and this annual event plays a big role in keeping that spirit alive on the island.”
He added: “It’s exciting to help bring such a prominent literary voice to Jersey.”
