ISLANDERS who are dreaming of a white Christmas may be in luck – but only if they are heading to northern parts of the British Isles for the festive period.

By the end of the week, mild air will have pushed across the Channel Islands, bringing cloud and some rain for Christmas Day.

But in the UK, this mild and moist air mass will be doing battle with colder conditions pushing down from the north – and where they meet, there could be snow.

‘There is still a lot of uncertainty in the forecast,’ said Sharon Merren, duty forecaster at Jersey Met.

‘But at the moment, the most likely place to see snow on Christmas Day is Scotland, northern parts of England and perhaps Northern Ireland.’

The last white Christmas in Jersey was in 1970. It also snowed in the Island on Christmas Day in 1962 and 1964.

Although forecasters are unsure of the exact detail, it is expected to become colder across the Channel Islands between Christmas and New Year.
