Dorothy Perkins and Burton to be lost from St Helier

The £25.2 million agreement, which only includes the inventory and digital assets of the businesses, is expected to lead to the loss of 2,450 jobs.

It does not include any of the chains’ 214 shops which are now due to close. The brands were previously part of Sir Philip Green’s Arcadia group.

One of its other outlets, Topshop, has also closed after the online parts of the business were sold to ASOS as part of a £30 million deal.

Boohoo chairman Mahmud Kamani said: ‘This is a great acquisition for the group as we extend our market share across a broader demographic, capitalising on growth opportunities as more and more customers shop online.

‘We continue to grow our portfolio of brands and customer base, strengthening our position as a leader in global fashion e-commerce.’

Arcadia was long one of the biggest players on the UK high street, but the Covid-19 pandemic dealt a final blow to the business, which had struggled with a shift in shopping behaviour in recent years. In December it entered administration, putting thousands of jobs on the line.
