Building firm donates £3,000 to cancer charity

Construction company ROK has donated £3,160 to The Friends of Anthony Nolan, an organisation which helps to save the lives of people with blood cancer who need a stem-cell or bone-marrow transplant.

When no one claimed the £1,500 prize in the JEP Celebrate Local draw, which had been sponsored by ROK, the company decided to donate the prize money to the charity, adding to the amount already raised through its own fundraising activities.

ROK director Kevan Nelson said: ‘This year the board of directors has decided to have Anthony Nolan as its designated charity of the year.

‘We’d love to do some events this year although we don’t know what that will look like, but we’d love to do events collectively with them when we get out the other side of this [pandemic] to help to raise awareness of their work.’

Friends of Anthony Nolan chairman Tim Hicklin said the donation was ‘absolutely amazing’.

‘Fundraising has been increasingly difficult for all charities since the onset of the global pandemic.

‘Support from companies, such as today’s donation from ROK, makes such a huge and positive impact to what we do.’
