Blue Islands bookings with Flybe ‘not valid’

Blue Islands bookings with Flybe ‘not valid’

The company honoured flights booked for the weekend and today, but said all future journeys booked via its former franchise partner Flybe – which collapsed last week – are no longer valid and must be rebooked using its new direct-booking system.

In a statement, Blue Islands said: ‘Currently, funds from all future bookings for Blue-Islands-operated services made via Flybe are held by Flybe’s merchant card acquirers. These controls were put in place to safeguard consumer funds in the event of Flybe’s collapse. This means that the original booking for a Blue-Islands-operated service made via Flybe is no longer valid and requires rebooking with Blue Islands.

‘Customers should refer to the Civil Aviation Authority website for information on refunds, or contact the credit card company that was used for payment.’

Meanwhile, the company said it had secured two further routes to and from Jersey following the collapse of Flybe.

The year-round services to Birmingham and Exeter are due to start on Wednesday and can be booked online at blueislands.com. Bookings can also be made by phoning 0203 7443689 between 8am and 8pm.

Blue Islands chief executive Rob Veron said: ‘As a locally owned-and-operated airline we are committed to serving the Channel Islands’ communities and we are delighted to be able to confirm these two new routes to maintain essential connectivity between Jersey and the UK. Our aim is to sustainably develop our route network and invest in our air links.’

Ports of Jersey chief executive Matt Thomas added: ‘We are delighted at the announcement that Blue Islands will be flying from Jersey to Birmingham and Exeter. As a Channel-Islands-based airline, Blue Islands share our confidence in the strength of the Jersey market. We are really pleased that they have acted so quickly to add these routes.’
