Gallery: Turkey Buster Walk

The 80-year-old said that he was ‘getting too old’ to continue doing the walk but he expected it to carry on in future years without him.

This year the walk, which takes place each New Year’s Day to promote Jersey’s coastline and raise funds for the National Trust for Jersey, started at noon at La Mare Wine Estate in St Mary.

The four mile route wound through the back lanes of St Mary and St John, past Devil’s Hole and along cliff paths on the Island’s north coast.

Mr Stentiford said that the route had been chosen to mark the tenth anniversary of the Trust’s coastline campaign.

He said: ‘Devil’s Hole was the first gift of coastline to the campaign, so we thought we would walk in this area.’

He added that 2016 marked the 80th anniversary of the National Trust for Jersey, for which he hoped to raise £300 to £400 of donations on the day.

It was estimated that 70 to 80 walkers took part yesterday.
