More than 500 Islanders attended a record and CD sale in aid of Jersey Hospice at St Peter’s Parish Hall.
The event raised £1,000 for the charity and record collector Ollie Michael, who co-organised the event with his friend John Dalton, said its popularity proved that vinyl records were making a comeback.
Mr Michael, who works for the parish of St Peter, said he and Mr Dalton had always wanted to host a record and CD sale because of their love of music and chose to organise it in aid of Hospice after the charity supported their late friend.
‘We had 570 people, so it exceeded our expectations,’ Mr Michael said.
‘It is more than twice what we expected.
‘People were saying we should do it over two days in the future.
‘Vinyl died a death when CDs came out and everyone disposed of their record collection and then we got downloads and CDs became redundant.
‘But now everyone has realised that you get a nice record, better sound and a great picture on the front and they can’t be replaced.’
Islanders paid £1 entry for the event, with all proceeds going to charity.
Mr Michael said there were great records on sale, from rare Beatles’ classics to vinyls from the punk/rock era.
