The Health, Social Security and Housing Scrutiny panel has put forward several recommendations in a report on the Draft Discrimination Law, including the establishment of a tribunal to hear claims and appeals related to the legislation.
Deputy Kristina Moore, who is chairman of the panel, said that it was important that the legislation – which was first proposed more than 12 years ago – was introduced, but there were several areas of concern which should be addressed such as the proposed tribunal, which could be established jointly with Guernsey
Deputy Moore also called on Social Security Minister Francis Le Gresley, who proposed the law, which covers only racial discrimination, to introduce measures to prevent discrimination on the basis of sex, age and disability.
