A ST Saviour gym is seeking planning permission to extend its opening hours to boost income and clear more than £180,000 in debt.

Transform Together Fitness, on Longueville Road, has applied to vary an existing planning condition to allow opening from 6am instead of 6.45am and to remain open until 8pm rather than 6.45pm from Monday to Friday.

The gym is also seeking to operate from 8am to 4pm on Saturdays and bank holidays.

Planning documents stated that the business is carrying over £180,000 in debt, and claimed that longer hours would help secure its future.

The application argued that early mornings and evenings are peak times, particularly for “busy parents balancing work and family commitments”.

It estimates the additional sessions could bring in around £8,600 a month, based on attracting 36 more members, allowing it to clear its debts within 18 months.

A previous application to extend hours was refused due to concerns about noise and disturbance to nearby residents.

But the gym has since installed soundproofing measures – including acoustic flooring and double glazing – to reduce impact, according to the application.
