Senator Philip Ozouf has said that simply dipping into existing funds may not be the best way to secure the future of the disputed land.

Instead, he would like to see States-owned land, possibly from one of Jersey’s commercial areas, sold off to cover the costs of buying the Plémont plot before it is sold on to the National Trust for Jersey.

The move to buy the land – if necessary by compulsory purchase – was proposed by Chief Minister Ian Gorst earlier this year and the proposition is due to be debated by the house in early December.
