SUPPORTING local businesses, improving connectivity and breaking the stigma around mental health are among the core priorities for a St Helier Central candidate.
John Ttokkallos is standing for Deputy in the district. He previously stood for unsuccessfully for election in 2014.
He is one of eight candidates contesting four seats.
Outlining his vision, Mr Ttokkallos said: “I am standing for election for Deputy of St Helier for Jersey because I care deeply about Jersey, St Helier’s and its people and its future. I believe our Island thrives when we invest in people, support opportunity, and plan responsibly for the long term.”
He said he supports the development of both the Harbour and the Airport and would like to see the introduction of a second ferry service as well as more direct flights to Europe.
Discussing mental health, Mr Ttokkallos added: “Mental health affects every family, every workplace, and every school. Yet for too long it has been underfunded and misunderstood.
“I will push for increased funding for adult and youth mental health services, earlier intervention, and better access to support. Education is key — we must tackle stigma through schools, workplaces, and community awareness so people feel safe asking for help.
“Mental health should be treated with the same seriousness as physical health. I will also give my full support to the mental health strategy.”
Having worked in hospitality and catering for around four decades, Mr Ttokkallos said he would “stand up for restaurants, hotels, and small retail businesses that are the backbone of our economy”.
“I also support the development of new tourist attractions to strengthen Jersey’s appeal and create jobs while protecting our Island’s character,” he added.
