For when Guernsey competitors Paul Isaacs and Joseph Paul’s boat was hit badly by another team as they prepared to start their B section pairs final the Jersey team jumped at the chance to help their island neighbours return to the water.

Jersey competitor Tim Rogers said: ‘That was a highlight for me seeing the Jersey team race to the aid of the Guernsey pair. They had been rammed by another team on the start line of their final which severely damaged their boat but they managed to crawl back to the beach.

‘The Jersey team stepped in to help and literally stripped another boat and got them back out in about 12 minutes – it was a great example of the camaraderie at the event.’

There were highlights for Jersey on the water, too, as Paul Coutanche and James Salkeld finished ninth in the A section pairs final.
