A MAN who embarked on a crime spree within months of arriving in the Island has been jailed for three years and recommended for deportation.
Jason Thomas Glennon (48) arrived in Jersey from Ireland in July 2025 and began committing “serious” driving offences before breaking into a home and stealing £1,500 worth of items.
In February 2026, he was remanded in custody after pleading guilty to three counts of driving without insurance, two counts of driving without a licence, permitting another to drive without insurance and a single charge of illegal entry and larceny.
Crown Advocate Jordan Gollop, prosecuting, noted that while in custody Glennon had told probation he believed he “would not be caught” for driving without insurance.
The final driving without insurance offence, he explained, involved the 48-year-old using an uninsured vehicle to break into an Islander’s home.
Glennon was spotted by the complainant’s neighbour “reversing onto the victim’s driveway” at approximately 1pm, the court heard.
“At 1.26pm on 4 February, the defendant re-emerged from the direction of the entrance carrying a large Sports Direct carrier bag which he had not had in his possession prior to entering the address”, Advocate Gollop added.
Items solen – including a luxury handbag, an iPhone, multiple smart watches, items of jewellery, condolence cards and a dog collar – were eventually returned to the owner, it was said.
The prosecutor moved for a “custodial sentence” and a recommendation for Glennon’s deportation to the Republic of Ireland.
Advocate Francoise Binet, defending, asked that her client to be allowed to remain in Jersey to live with his partner and her children.
“In his own words, his partner and children are all that he has,” she urged. “The couple would be heartbroken if he were deported, it would effectively mean the end of the relationship between them.”
Delivering the court’s sentence, Lieutenant Bailiff Anthony Olsen, presiding, emphasised the “sense of violation, worry and fear” caused to victims of illegal entry and larceny.
He also described Glennon’s decision to drive without insurance in Jersey as “quite deliberate” and therefore an aggravating feature.
Mr Olsen said the court would need to “reflect the escalating nature” of the man’s offending across several months, before jailing Glennon for a total of three years and disqualifying him from driving for a total of three years.
Turning to the question of deportation, the Lieutenant Bailiff observed that Glennon had “only been in the Island for some 10 months” and “for three of those you’ve been in prison.”
Mr Olsen ultimately decided that Glennon’s expulsion from the Island was not “disproportionate” and recommended he be deported upon release from La Moye.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the States of Jersey police said the sentence “is welcomed and shows the seriousness of this crime”.
