The announcement has angered airlines, including Blue Islands, which operates several flights per day between Jersey and Guernsey.

The island’s Public Services department said that some closures were unavoidable because of the scale of the runway work.

It gave a ‘worst-case scenario’ of four two-day closures, but added that full details would not be confirmed until a contractor had been appointed.
