The ninth winner of the award, which is for embodying the qualities most admired by the former chief sports reporter of the JEP, 35-year-old Carter was clearly delighted at the presentation at a reception for the Jersey team at Fort Regent.
He impressed the JEP reporting team in Aland with his spirit and unselfishness through the week-long campaign in the Baltic, despite requiring constant treatment to a back injury.
Other awards presented at the event, hosted by Education, Sport and Culture, were gymnastics coach Ben Frith (30), who took home the Tony Richomme Memorial Award for his long and distinguished Games career as both competitor and coach; and general team manager Jeff Reed, who became the first recipient of the Bob Blake Memorial Trophy, for outstanding services to the Games.
The latter trophies were presented, respectively, by widows Elaine Richomme and Gaynor Blake, to wholehearted applause.
Well over 100 of the Jersey team, many sporting their medals, turned up to hear speeches of congratulations from Chief Minister Terry Le Sueur, Education Minister James Reed, Phil Austin, chairman of the 2015 Games bid team, and Steve Jacobs, chairman of the Island Games Association of Jersey.
