Basketball team finish in eighth

JERSEY fought hard for seventh place in the basketball last night but lost out 63-58 to the Isle of Man.

Coach Bob Gouzinis praised his team for fighting to the end and said: 'It was a very intense match that was quite physical and both teams gave it their all.

'We fought back to get it to just one point difference in the last quarter but the Isle of Man made their shots where as we missed a few and we maybe should have made a better job of our defence.

'But we gave it everything and that's just basketball; we obviously wanted to win so yes there is disappointment but it's been such a good experience for us.

'The group draw was great with getting the chance to play the Cayman Islands and Bermuda, we were so lucky, as we paid all this money to come here and had the best teams in our group.

'Games like that are impossible to find for teams like us and although they are difficult teams to play the fact that we got the chance is a positive for us.'
