The two won their respective events in the Fantastic North Run in blustery conditions on Sunday.

‘The wind was all over the place,’ said 27-year-old Dawes, who had been hoping to run under 1.10, but finished in 1.11.58. ‘It was particularly awful after nine miles, on the approach to the downward slope to the finish.’

For Sarah Davis, the win came as something of a shock. Finishing in 1.25.18 the 31-year-old said that she began the race ‘hoping for a PB’.

The first Jersey Spartan member home was Paul Holley (43), a winner twice before, who completed the race in 1.16.52.
