UNLIKE at the previous day’s Grand National, the hot favourite for the Jersey Spartan AC Fitness First Spring 10K romped home.
Tom Brown finished a comfortable winner in 34 min 27 sec, and if he wasn’t happy with his time, he was delighted with the victory over a course from the Waterfront to St Aubin and back.
Phil Ahier gave one of his usual gutsy efforts, being the first veteran home and finishing second overall in 35.09 seconds. Third place went to Simon Roderick in 35.03, which was quite an achievement as he finished ahead of Superman – alias Bryce Alford, who is attempting to run a world record time dressed as the superhero in the London Marathon.
Sarah Corcoran, who set a PB at 8k a couple of weeks ago, also justified her position as favourite. She was involved in a fast-paced battle with Sarah Bruce, but after edging ahead after 4 km she pushed home her advantage to win in 40.20, with Bruce second in 40.47. Third place went to Vicky Barratt in 41.53.
