TOM BROWN was a clear winner of Jersey Spartan Athletic Club’s latest round of the Graeme Le Maistre Cross Country Series races on Sunday.
And having finished the race at St Catherine’s Reservoir he left to continue his studies at Imperial College London, where he will again team up with renowned coach Frank Horwill, a level 4 official who has worked with 40 international runners.
Sunday’s race started late as the four-mile course had to be diverted due to slippery conditions on the paths and the road – with a mallet being used to crack and remove ice on various sections.
The challenge included three climbs up a winding hill but Brown was up to the challenge after the punishing training schedules he has been set by octogenarian Horwill. Second place went to Bryce Alford after he survived a steward’s inquiry for not wearing his race number. Damian Maher was third, ahead of Toby Edwards and Simon Roderick, while Jo Gorrod was the first lady home in sixth place overall.
