TWENTY junior cross country runners will compete against some of the UK’s best athletes at the Hampshire Championships this weekend.
The Spartan youngsters, as well as two Jersey seniors, will be vying for selection to the county team who will compete for Hampshire at the UK Inter-County Cross Country in March.
Jersey is fielding a strong team – its largest yet – and is expected to take a haul of medals, despite the fact that nine juniors have never raced at this level before.
Toby Edwards, who was selected for the squad last year, will be aiming to make the county team at U20 level, while strong hopes lie equally with U17 runner Felicity Johnson-Deeley and U15 competitor Danielle Leerson, who both made the cut last year, but will be running this time in higher age groups.
