THE race to be crowned this year’s Jersey Spartans’ Modern Hotels Half Marathon champion is wide open.
London runner Matthew Wring has the fastest entered time for tomorrow morning’s event, with a PB of 1 hr 10 min, although event organiser Mary McGrath says he could face tough competition from some fit and in-form Jersey competitors.
She said: ‘It’s tough to say who will have the upper hand on the day, because everyone has been running very well. Matthew Wring has the strongest time, although Ken White and Dave Ibbotson will be up there, as well as Jon Coote, and maybe Paul McGrath, who is just getting back into it.
Over 300 runners have now entered the race, and with no obvious overseas contenders, the women’s race looks set to be dominated by Jersey runner Jo Gorrod – if she enters – and others such as Sarah Corcoran, Kerry Petulla, Carol Knight, Sam Horsfall and Barbara Parker.
Runners are being encouraged to share cars and park at the Plat Douet Road entrance to FB Fields, or make other arrangements.
