The event, at the New Gilson Hall, attracted players from Guernsey, Wales, and nine counties in England, with over 300 matches taking place.

In the under-15 boys’ doubles final Matthew Bignall and Richard Streets were pushed hard by Devon’s Daniel Chow and Nick Kellow in the second set but overcame the determined effort of the UK pair and looked relatively comfortable in their 21-11, 21-17 win.

Jade Coombs-Goodfellow and Marilisa Garnier added to their success of winning the U17 Guernsey Open doubles at the end of last year by claiming the same event in the Jersey Open with a 21-17, 21-9 victory over Sarnian pair Emily Trebert (who won all three titles in this age group) and Hannah Spittal.

There was also success for Alex Hutchings who, paired with Cheshire’s equally talented Michael Johnston, beat Guernsey’s Glenn Le Tissier and Harry Southwell in the U17s 21-10, 21-17.

Jersey players had a share in two U19 finals with the ever-improving Katherine Thornton combining with Guernsey’s top junior Kiara Green to lift the girls’ doubles title by winning the group with their closest rivals, and runners-up, being Wales’ Hannah Stephenson and Jane Jones.

In the mixed doubles Tom Gibbs and Stephenson combined extremely well to defeat the powerful Jon Bradbury (Berkshire) and Thornton in a thrilling three setter 21-15, 13-21, 21-8.

Coombs-Goodfellow, who won the Guernsey U17 singles title recently, also reached the final in Jersey where she put up an excellent display before going down to talented Hampshire player Josie Latimer 21-18, 21-8.

Both Caroline Bignall and Natasha Hutchings did well in the U13 and U15 singles respectively with Bignall losing to Lancashire’s Caroline David-Paluch 21-10, 21-15 and Hutchings to Emily Trebert 21-5, 21-11.

Bignall then paired with Becky Cross to finish runners-up in the girls’ doubles behind Caroline and Stephanie David-Paluch (Lancs).

Ben Watson and Tom Gibbs showed promise in the U19 doubles as they finished runners up after losing out to England ranked Adam Rickenbach (Hampshire) and Jon Bradbury 21-15, 21-11.

Other Island players who gave a good account of themselves to gain runner-up spots were Marilisa Garnier and Michael Johnston (Cheshire) in the U17 mixed.

They were beaten by Hampshire’s Ben Muir and Josie Latimer (who both won multiple titles) 21-16, 21-12.
