Speaking in the States yesterday, Senator Stuart Syvret said that so-called unlinked anonymised testing would give a much clearer picture of the extent of infections on which to base future health promotion work. All blood taken from patients at hospitals and by GPs will be tested for the diseases unless patients specifically opt out. Several Members asked why patients would not be told the results of the tests and one suggested that this was a ‘missed opportunity’ to make people aware of the risk they posed to others. The minister explained that it would be impossible to trace back whose sample was whose because of the way the tests were carried out.
