He is planning to sue the Privileges and Procedures Committee, of which he himself is a member. The committee is the body responsible for States Members’ conduct, and the Senator has been called to a hearing tomorrow as a result of his controversial open letter to property developer Richard Brocken. Senator Syvret said that if he was sanctioned in any way by Privileges, he would not take part in the traditional Liberation Day parade from the Royal Square to Liberation Square as he believed it would be ‘gross hypocrisy’ to walk beside other States Members who had denied him his right to free speech. ‘Such behaviour is more akin to the behaviour of Nazis, Communists and other equally nutty regimes,’ he said.
