An air of quiet reflection and contemplation held sway in the crowd who lined the streets of St Helier on a chill but sunny winter morning.
As the trumpeter played the Last Post, a single cannon fired, and all those gathered fell silent to remember the sacrifice of those who died.
Jersey’s Lieut-Governor, Air Chief Marshal Sir John Che-shire, the Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, and the Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft, led the wreath-laying ceremonies soon after a second cannon signalled the end of the two-minute silence.
The day had started with a march of veterans, flanked by the Band of the Island of Jersey, to the Cenotaph from outside Cyril Le Marquand House.
In a display of affection and respect, Islanders broke into spontaneous applause as they passed by.
