Town hotel to be turned into flats

Last week, after a couple of deferrals, Planning’s applications sub-committee approved revised plans by architects Axis.

The 55-bedroom Hotel Rex in St Saviour’s Road will remain open for one last season and Dandara hope to start work later this year on 86 one-bedroom and five two-bedroom studio flats and two town houses.

Not all the existing buildings will be demolished.

Architect Ian McDonald said that the listed buildings which form part of the hotel would be retained and restored to form the two town houses.

Dandara has built several hundred apartments in the Island in recent years, many on former hotel sites such as Château Royale, which replaced the Grouville Bay Hotel.

The redevelopment of the Hotel Angleterre and Chelsea Hotel in Gloucester Street are in progress.

Dandara acquired the Hotel Rex last year from Colin Journeaux.
