Father was drunk while looking after his daughter

The man – who cannot be named for legal reasons – had trouble standing still and was slurring his words when approached by police officers at 10.30 am on 12 December, the Magistrate’s Court heard.

He was sentenced to nine months’ probation and ordered to complete an alcohol treatment order.

Advocate Julian Gollop, defending, said the defendant ‘sees the incident as a wake-up call’.

Sentencing the man, Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris said: ‘As the adult, you are the one who is responsible for that child’s safety. You had drunk too much the night before and it was a good thing that members of the public called the police.’
