‘I warned you’ – Planning criticised after St Aubin landslide

Eight people spent the remainder of the night sheltering at St Brelade’s Parish Hall having been woken around 3 am by the sound of tonnes of earth collapsing into the building site of the former Hotel La Tour in St Aubin’s High Street.

Mont de la Rocque and the High Street remained closed this morning following concerns that further landslips could undermine the road above the site.

Planning’s handling of the redevelopment of the former Hotel La Tour was criticised in the wake of the landslip by former Planning chief officer John Young, who was parish Deputy of the area from 2011 to 2014 and during which time he represented residents who were objecting to the development.
