AN away day trip for Jersey Bulls can often feel like a grind for the players, but it could be just the tonic for a change in fortunes.
Bulls travel to Epsom & Ewell tonight, hopeful they can put an end to a four-game league run without a win – the last three being at home.
Like Bulls, Epsom play on a 3G pitch but are struggling near the foot of the table in 18th, battling against relegation.
“It’s a different feeling on an away trip sometimes because it is all a bit rushed,” said manager Gary Freeman. “Epsom have a great set-up, with the 3G there. It’s quite a tight area and this will be a difficult day because there are battling teams that are fighting for survival. They’re trying to stay in the league. It’s a small pitch, it’s going to be tight and it’s going to be a tough afternoon but, as I said before, we’ve got to do something a little different to grind a result out.
“We’ll go into it confident and Epsom, knowing them, will come at it thinking they’ve got a chance and that will suit us. We’ve just got to go and make one of these games count, go and get three points on the board and get us going again.”
Freeman can welcome back Pierce Roche in goal after serving a one-match suspension. James Carr and Will Byers are unable to travel so 16-year-old Fergus Boyle is expected to deputise at left back. Jonny Le Quesne was forced off early from Bulls’ 1-1 home draw with Balham on Saturday and remains a doubt, while Freeman said that Miguel Carvalho is likely to start after recovering from a thigh strain.
