FILIP NOWACKI fought off challenges from Olympic and Commonwealth Games swimmers to claim a breaststroke double at the Edinburgh International Swim Meet.

The teenage Islander won the 100m and 200m events in the early-season test, ahead of the likes of Adam Peaty and Greg Butler.

Nowacki – now a member of Peaty’s AP Race elite athlete set-up – opened with top spot in the 200m (2min 10.15sec), with England’s 2022 Commonwealth Games medallist Butler taking second.

The former Tigers junior was a second off his long-course personal best in the 100m final, but it was still enough to lead a tight field.

The top four finished within 0.48s of each other, with Team GB star Peaty claiming fourth and Butler second, again.

Roles were reversed in the 50m, with Peaty touching home first in 27.33s and Nowacki fourth in 27.62s.

Nowacki is preparing for the British Nationals, in mid-April, where he is targeting qualification for the 2026 European Championships.
