RUGBY star Kevin Sinfield, who has led a fundraising drive for Motor Neurone Disease charities, collecting more than £10 million over the past five years, is heading to Jersey and has invited Islanders to lace up their running shoes and join him in raising even more cash.
The former rugby league international, who has become a leading coach in rugby union since ending his playing career, will be visiting Jersey on Wednesday 15th October, when a fundraising dinner at Jersey Rugby Club will be preceded by a fun run open to all.
The visit comes five years after Kevin’s first fundraising initiative to support those living with Motor Neurone Disease, notably his former Leeds Rhinos’ team-mate Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with MND in 2019. These charity efforts have expanded and broadened since the first series of marathon runs in November 2020, amassing a running total of more than £10 million.
Kevin and his team are preparing for their 2025 challenge, which this year will include visits to Ipswich, Cork, Swansea, Sheffield, Workington, Whitehaven, Dundee, and North Yorkshire before arriving in Leeds on 7th December. As in previous years, the aim is to raise £777,777.
Dan McAlister, chairman of Jersey RFC, said: “We’re delighted to have Kevin visiting the island – his fundraising running in recent years has been inspirational and it’s fantastic to have this opportunity for people to run alongside him.”
The Jersey trip will include a fun run at the Waterfront – starting at 4.30pm – which will be open to anyone who registers in advance via the Race Nation website.
Arranged in conjunction with Ports of Jersey, the Jersey Development Company, and the Bailiff’s Chambers, the run will encompass three laps of a Waterfront circuit. The entry fee for adults will be £20, with free places for under-16s; those aged under 12 will need to be accompanied by an adult. All entry fees will go towards MND charities.
